In my personal opinion, I preferred the movie version of Romeo and Juliet. The first reason is because it more adapted to modern day so I can connect with it better. It is in a very similar time period to the actual one as you can see in the architecture, the way people are dressed and the cars. There are also some funny parts that make it more interesting. Like the way Mercutio acted when he was dressed as a girl for the costume party. The locations are also better, making its surroundings more captivating. I really like the scenarios where the movie was filmed because they formed a mood, for example the beach. They also where good backgrounds for all the drama happening, like the Capulets mansion. Also the characters are more dramatic, causing a bigger impact on their actions. For example when the Capulets and the Montegues where fighting in the gas station, all the drama they put on it made you felt like if you where part of the scene. However the theme that was most shown in the movie was the family feud and all the violence it cause. I personally preferred the theme of the book which was love over everything because it was very romantic. Even thought the movie was very dramatic, it showed more accurate what was happening and overall it was easier to understand the movie and more interesting.

Good point about about the difference in what themes were focused on. I wonder why Lurhman chose to focus more on the feud?
